In his 1951 essay, The Impact of Science on Society, Bertrand Russell wrote that the most important science of the future would be ''mass psychology ... taken up by scientists under a scientific dictatorship.'' He said that ''the influence of [the] home is obstructive'' and that ''indoctrination'' must begin ''before the age of ten.'' If you really truly think that that's the case, then give up now and switch on your television set and watch some soap or some happy comedy that's screaming in its canned laughter and go on your merry way.
